Traveling by train has always been a part of my daily routine - whether it's heading to school, commuting to work, or exploring new destinations.
Yet, each time I board, I find myself waiting for those crucial details on the info screens to pop-up. Like many, I dislike the idle wait, especially when vital information should always be right there.
One day when I was waiting because of a delay, an idea strike me - I'm going to design a better one. Why not design a solution that instantly answers every question that goes through your mind? Questions like...
- Am I on the right train?
- Where exactly are we now?
- What is causing the delay?
- Why is there a speed readout when I need to see the next stations?
My first step was to capture the current state of train info screens from our national carrier, ZSSK in Slovakia, which look like this.

And I was also looking around to get some inspiration. For that we don't really need to go that far - a quick look at Czech or Austria expanded idea even more and I started to notice the details that I was not paying attention before.
- plan versus actual time is not working
- actual time is there 2x - bottom left and top right with the date
- carriage number is completely missing
- logo in bottom right is cutout
- readability is really bad just from the place where I sit - not even 5m
- when we are arriving on the next station it is there again 2x
- sometimes the list of next stations is empty
- why is the speed of the train covering section of next stations
